About Adaptive Sports Program New Mexico
For more than 40 years, the Adaptive Sports Program New Mexico (ASPNM) has opened the door to outdoor adventure for children, adults, and military veterans living with disabilities. Our mission is simple but powerful: to create life-changing opportunities for people of all abilities to experience the freedom, joy, and health benefits of sports and recreation.
What began as a small volunteer-driven ski program has grown into a statewide nonprofit serving 250–300 athletes each year through more than 1,000 lessons and experiences. Our programs now span all seasons — adaptive skiing and snowboarding at Ski Santa Fe, Pajarito, and Sandia Peak; summer watersports such as kayaking, paddleboarding, and sailing at lakes and rivers across New Mexico; plus rock climbing, archery, rafting, and more. Each activity helps participants build strength, confidence, and community — both on and off the slopes.
At the heart of ASPNM is a passionate network of 250+ trained volunteers, many of whom return year after year to share their skills and love of the outdoors. These dedicated individuals receive specialized training to ensure lessons are safe, empowering, and tailored to each athlete’s goals and abilities. Our experienced staff and volunteers work side by side with participants, families, and caregivers to create inclusive, welcoming experiences.
Beyond sports, ASPNM fosters belonging and connection. Many athletes and their families describe the program as life-changing — a place where barriers disappear, friendships form, and new possibilities come into view. We are proud to collaborate with schools, veteran organizations, healthcare providers, and community partners to make adaptive recreation accessible to more New Mexicans each year.
